Yurbuds – Love at first run.

Ya know, I wasn’t sure if I was going to run tonight but when I got home from work there was a little box begging me to lace up and hit the road. I’m so glad I did. It was a great evening for a run – the sky was so beautiful I couldn’t help but smile!

I haven’t said so yet officially but, the reason I’m able to run Nike Women’s (half) Marathon this year is because of a partnership with an official race sponsor, Yurbuds. I’ve seen these around for awhile and so I jumped at this opportunity. I LOVE products made FOR WOMEN BY WOMEN (like Bia and RunningSkirts.com). So when these babies showed up on my doorstep tonight I had to take them for a spin.

Here’s my right-after-running reaction to using them for the first time:

So, in order to insert your Yurbuds you have to twist – which I am used to because I would do that to try to get my old earbuds to ‘stick’ by twisting them around. The odd looking shape of the “enhancers” (the silicone piece that covers the earphone) is a little offputting but trust me when I say I felt they were completely comfortable. Now, I’ve not logged hours in them yet so I’m curious to see how they compare for a long run. My old earphones would somehow cause my ears to feel numb or sore with pressure. So stay tuned for that.

One thing I did notice was that I could still hear the cars and wind around me while my music played. That’s because they’ve designed these to allow more ambient noise. For a lady running solo, that is smart design right there.

It’s good to know that Yurbuds does have different sized enhancers if you need them. I find the ones that came standard out of the box to be good for me. They are snug and I was THRILLED that I didn’t have to fidget or fuss with them at all during my run. If only I had video of the last time I ran with my old earphones. It was always so embarrassing to be running and swinging my arms around as I fished for a loose flying earphone behind my back. NO MORE!

I’m not going to lie – I will probably take these to work and wear them at my desk, ya know for the times when I need to block out my co-workers water-cooler gossip I legitimately need to watch a video online for “work reasons” I really need to focus.

If you are interested in taking a look at Inspire Yurbuds, you can probably find them at an REI, Best Buy, or running store near you. Check out the Yurbuds website for more information.

THANK YOU YURBUDS, SWEATY BANDS, AND LUNA BAR FOR A GREAT PACKAGE! (That Sweaty Band worked amazing, by the way. I’m going to have to look more into these).

I highly encourage you to follow Yurbuds on Twitter and Facebook. Search Twitter for #inspireforwoman for more info on this product. Also, this weekend, keep an eye on #runnwm for tweet deets from Nike Women’s Marathon!

Disclosure: I received this product for free to use and review. All opinions are my own.

  1. Aren’t they so great?! I’m so excited to eventually get home to mine. I ran a marathon in the ones that I lost, and they stuck the whole way, barely felt them. I also LOVE the sweatybands, I have one with turtles and one with dots (though I just retired that one after two years- it stretched after wearing it at least 4 times a week). Just an FYI for folks looking to purchase the new Inspire for Women colorful ones, I believe they can only be found at Target right now. The older ones (which I also love) are still available at other retailers that you listed.

  2. Started using these a few years ago and thought they were amazing. I was always that runner with earbuds pinned to their shirt because NOTHING would stay in! Love how they come in fun colors now too

  3. I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets that weird pressure/pain when wearing other earphones…so weird?? But anyways, I am so glad you liked your yurbuds — I am totally in love with mine, as they are comfy, painless, don’t fall out, and stillll have awesome sound quality! I like your blue ones :)

  4. I love my Yurbuds. My headphones always fall out of my ears and it drives me crazy. These are the only ones that stick and don’t fall out. The first time it took me a little bit to get the fit right but it was so worth it. And yay for another pull-up!

  5. Nice review. I have never run with music so I am glad to read you could still hear sounds around you such as people approaching and traftic, bicycles, etc.

    • Thanks Elle! I don’t regularly run with earphones – often because I’m running with someone or because I don’t want to become dependent on music. However, I have found them useful for getting through the last 10k of a marathon or on the second day of back-to-back runs when I know I’m going to feel it. When I do use them, I keep the volume pretty low. I just want to be able to hear the beat but I don’t have to be able to distinguish the background vocals, you know what I mean? The way the yurbuds are designed (fitting further into your ear) I was worried that they would block more noise than my other earphones, but they actually don’t. I thought I’d have to play the music even lower than I did with my other earphones in order to still hear things around me but I didn’t. It’s definitely important to hear and be aware of your surroundings!

  6. I have been wanting to get a pair of these for quite some time. I always have problems with earphones falling out or making my ears hurt, especially on long plane rides when I have them in for hours at a time. I recently got the new iphone 5, however, and it came with a pair of new, specially-designed earphones that are supposed to fit in your ear better, etc. I haven’t tried them out yet and will give them a fair shot but have a feeling I’ll get getting some yurbuds in my stocking this year… Thanks for the review!

  7. I have been wanting a pair of these! I first saw them at the RNR San Antonio expo but wasn’t thrilled with the price tag so I passed; I have been thinking that I might snag a pair this weekend! Or, maybe tomorrow? I have a Target close by! All kinds of excited today and this post just made it that much more so!

  8. And, now I think I NEED a running skirt! Maybe not for this weekend but I am definitely checking it out. I think I am going to see about getting one for my daughter’s 10th birthday; I think she would love it!

    • That would be an awesome gift! I, of course, am partial to RunningSkirts.com – which won’t be at NWMs for obvious reasons – but they are at a ton of race expos all over the states. I’m sure there are some good fitting running skirts from Nike or Target or even other smaller brands like Skirt Sports, etc.
